The World Youth and Junior Biathlon Championships are just six weeks away. Event Director Jane Towle says the number of competitors has exceeded their expectations.
We anticipated between 27 and 28 Federations. We exceeded our estimates we are at 35 so this is bigger than we ever anticipated. We have gone from 350 Athletes, Coaches and Support Staff and are now pushing 500. This will be one of the largest World Juniors ever hosted and we are thrilled it’s right here in the United States.”
Presque Isle has hosted several World Class events over the last decade including the 2006 World Youth and Jr. Biathlon Championships. It takes a lot of people to make the event a success and Towle says they are still looking for volunteers to help out.
“Actually our first team will be arriving in three weeks. The Russian team will be arriving and staying here for a solid month. Other teams are looking to do the same. We are seeing some great activity people coming early and we are glad that will help the community and economic boost for everybody.”
This could a huge shot in the arm for area businesses. Some of the teams will be arriving in early February to begin training for the Championships.
” The more this event grows the more volunteers we need. Please look at the website and sign up. We would love to have you.”
