The Nordic Heritage Center in Presque Isle will host the first major event of the winter later this month. The Jr World Biathlon Team Trials begin on December 28th and continue through the 30th.
This is a prep event for the IBU Youth/ Junior World Championships slated for February
“This is a significant event. It is a great trial run for us to see how all the pieces of the puzzle will come together for the big event in February.”
Around 50 competitors from all over the Country will converge on the Star City Christmas week in preparation for the trials. The US Biathlon Association will determine the Youth and Jr teams based on the performance on the trail and on the range. Jane Towle says hosting the event is important for the organizing committee as they get ready to welcome the world in February
“This is a great trial for us. It gives us a hands on to get out the cobwebs for all the pieces of the puzzle. There are a lot of pieces to the puzzle for these events. Very complicated event it’s not as simple as a lot of them. We have to brush up on our skills.
They are still in need of volunteers both for the Team Trials later this month and also for the World Championships in February.
“We would love to have more volunteers. This is the US trials which will be choosing the Jr team that will be competing the World Jr. Championships in February. We would love to have more volunteers.”
