State Police is seeking the identify of a middle aged woman whose body was found floating in the Penobscot River in Hampden Monday morning. The body has now been transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta for autopsy and identification. Police said the woman appears to be in her 50s or 60s, short reddish hair, wearing jeans and a leather-like coat. Two kayakers spotted the body in the river, about 20 to 30 feet from shore, off from Cottage Road. Detectives will review any missing persons reports. It appears the body had been in the river only a few days. Anyone with information on the identity of the woman is asked to call State Police in Orono at 866-2122.
