Court 2

Bangor, Maine:  United States Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II announced that Brittany A. Mace, 24, of Stockton Springs,  was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in Bangor to eight months of imprisonment for bank embezzlement.  The court directed that seven months of the sentence be satisfied by home detention, imposed five years of supervised release and ordered the defendant to pay almost $26,000 in restitution.  The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge on November 14, 2013.

Court records reveal that the defendant was a teller at Bangor Saving Bank.  From about August 23, 2010, to about November 3, 2011, the defendant stole almost $26,000 from the accounts of 48 bank customers, many of whom were elderly and some of whom had dementia. The bank discovered the embezzlement in 2011 and reimbursed customers for their losses.
