The Limestone Recreation Department hosted it’s 2nd annual Weekend of Wellness at the Limestone Community School on Saturday. The event included free fitness classes, screenings, wellness education..and much more. News Source 8′s Angela Christoforos has the story…
It’s a day dedicated to good health, fitness, and overall wellness for people of all ages. With everything from open swim to free fitness classes.
Limestone based personal trainer Kim Simon said, “There’s a fitness program for everybody and they can have fun getting fit.”
There were Booths with all kinds of health information and demonstrations. Even a modified pizza bar for a healthier portion control alternative that still satisfies that craving.
Registered Dietitian with Healthy Aroostook Amy Bouchard said, “Using whole grain products as your crust is a really great way to add some extra fiber, some vitamins and minerals. A low fat mozzarella cheese, to save on some extra fat and calories. Instead of choosing some of the regular sausages and pepperonis, those kinds of things that tend to be high in saturated fat and high in calories we chose to offer some vegetables and even some fruit and some lean meats.”
Healthy Aroostook is also gave blood pressure checks and measured percentage of body fat all for free.
Director of Limestone Parks and Rec Sara Shaw said, “The goal is to get the community healthier and more active, and participating and engaging in wellness.”
Increasing awareness of how to lead a healthy lifestyle through eating a balanced diet, staying physically active, and screenings to track current body mass index, percentage of body fat, and blood pressure.
The Limestone Rec Department plans on making the Weekend of Wellness an annual event and plans to make it bigger and better each year.
