Three County soccer teams picked up Eastern Maine titles last year. The Washburn and Fort Kent girls both lost in the State game while the Houlton boys picked up the schools first ever State soccer title. This week we are profiling the three defending champions. We start with the Washburn Beavers who lost a heartbreaker to Richmond last year. Coach Marcie Barbarula says the team is focused on returning to the States

“Coming into the season this year we have been practicing for the past two weeks and their goal is to back at the State game.”

The Beavers have several returners from last years team and also added two veteran players who missed last years

Barbula said the additions make the team even stronger ”¬†Carsyn Koch who didn’t play last year to concentrate on cross country is back and Joan Overman returns from an injury. We are going to be very fast up front.”

Barbarula says The teams offense will be very good, but they also be very strong on defense. They lost just a handful of players from last years team.

“We are going to have a solid defense this year to go with the solid offense.¬† We have a new keeper, Rayah Saucier did graduate so that was a key position we had to fill. We lost two other seniors also, but underclassmen have stepped right into the positions and all around we should have a solid defense.”

This group of girls knows what it takes to win, capturing three straight basketball titles, a cross country State Title and an Eastern Maine soccer title.

Barubula says the chemistry on the team is great.” they work well together they help each other out. They complement each other so with that we are looking at a successful season.”
