The defending State Class D Champion Washburn Girls are preparing for the new season. There will be several new faces in key positions for the team this year.

It’s been a learning experience for the Beavers, Washburn has several new faces in key positions thanks to graduation, students leaving the area and injuries.

Barbarula:”We do have a lot of holes to fill. Some younger players are going to have to step up and fill those positions . We are going to have a young team, but I think their dedication will pan out.”

This group of players has had success in all sports including State titles in Basketball and Cross Country. Barbarula says they are hungry

Barbarula:”They have the drive to win so that is to our advantage.”

It will be an interesting preseason for the Beavers as coach Barbarula and Assistant Coach Scott Olsen make changes on the fly

Barbarula:”They are going to have to be flexible. They know they might be put in position they are not used to be playing in and just have to adjust to it.”

The Beavers will still score a lot of goals this year, They have two of their leading scorers back in Mackenzie Worcester and Joan Overman, but they have had to make several adjustments on the defensive side of the field.

Barbarula:”Defensively we have lost a lot so we have had to switch some players around that don’t normally play in a defensive position. Offensively we do have some goal scorers back so that will help us tremendously.
