The Caribou Vikings picked up an Eastern Maine Baseball Title on Wednesday evening. The Vikings stopped Old Town in a 10 inning thriller.
Berkoski:”It felt great. We worked hard towards it. The coach was pretty pumped. It is what we wanted it has never happened before at Caribou so that put more icing on the cake there.”
Old Town and Caribou are very familiar with each other. The teams met in the Eastern Maine Basketball Finals last February and now in the EM Baseball Title Game. For the basketball players on the team this was sweet revenge.
Milliard:” It was sweet revenge all of us were looking forward to it. I don’t think I have seen a team so psyched to play in the Eastern Maine’s and actually win it this year.”
Herbert:”It made it more special get revenge on them. Another chance to play them, obviously they have some great athletes there too.”
The Vikings played several exciting games during the playoffs. Two games went into extra innings and a seventh inning walk win and a win over Hermon.
Sean Sadler who pitched a complete game extra inning victory in Winslow says the team has great chemistry and picks each other up.
Sadler:” You always have to bear down at the end. It seems our bats and our team chemistry really shows at the end. It’s when we really come through and we count on each other. Big hits from like Matt Manter, and Cody Herbert all the guys and Curry with the walk off.”
Matt Curry pitched all 10 innings in the title game. He said that he felt stronger as the game went on and that he felt he could have continued on the mound if necessary
Curry:” Well when we tied that game up in the sixth inning I had a lot of confidence going out there and felt I was getting stronger as the game went on. I started getting the majority of my strikeouts in the ninth and tenth innings. I was ready to go another inning we I needed to but thank God we ended it in the tenth.
