A trooper was injured after a vehicle hit black ice and slid out of control. Monday night Trooper Jill Monahan was at the scene of a single vehicle crash on I95 northbound in Smyrna. 19 year old Jayde McNinch of Littleton had skid off the road in her 2009 Chevrolet car after hitting black ice. Tr. Monahan stood outside McNinch’s car in the median speaking to her. McNinch was still seated in her car. While they were talking, a northbound 2005 Chevrolet pickup being operated by Eric Clark, age 37 of Houlton, careened out of control on the black ice, skidding off the road and into the median, striking the rear of McNinch’s car. The impact of the crash caused McNinch’s car to spin around and the car struck Tr. Monahan as she tried to move away, knocking her to the ground. McNinch was partially ejected from her vehicle and dragged by her vehicle as it spun away.
After the impact, Clark’s vehicle continued on and struck a tree, Clark was not injured in the crash. McNinch was brought to Houlton Regional Hospital by family where she was treated for leg and arm injuries and later released. Tr. Monahan was transported to Houlton Regional Hospital by Houlton Ambulance where she was treated for leg and arm injuries and later released. Both vehicles sustained significant damage in the crash and were towed from the scene.
