Central Aroostook is soaring to new heights with a unique first of it’s kind event that took place both in the air and on the ground at the Northern Maine Regional Airport in Presque Isle on Saturday.  Take Flight is an event that’s more like 3 events in one: part air show, part community fair, and part health fair.  As well as an opportunity to showcase the importance of the Northern Maine Regional Airport for critical care transport.

Airport Director Scott Wardwell says,  “Most aren’t familiar with the critical role we play in a medical emergency in getting people to higher levels of care.”

In the Commercial aviation hangar of the airport people lined up for various screenings, blood pressure checks, and free flu shots. Booths provided a multitude of information on topics pertaining to health, safety, and wellness.

Director of Advancement at TAMC Jason Parent says, “Got a unique event here I think what I’m seeing more of here that we usually see at our health fair are young families with children I think the lure of the aircraft and the aviation component have brought young families into our health fair, numbers like we’ve never seen before.”

The Take Flight event did indeed draw in a large audience; close to 3,000 people of all ages. From plane parades to Maine Forest Service helicopters to public safety displays, there was quite a sight to see- and not just from the ground! Scenic flights are a fun part of the Take Flight event, and everyone knows the fall foliage is beautiful this time of year. What better way to check it out than from up in the sky?

Director of Advancement at TAMC Jason Parent says, “We have a lot of folks coming out I think as a result of the weather as a result of the uniqueness of the event and the community spirit really exists here it’s nice to see so many smiles on so many faces.”

An impressive lineup of events contributed in making Take Flight a success.

TAMC partnered with the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce and the Northern Regional Airport along with over 70 vendors to make the Take Flight event possible.
