Four members of the UM Presque Isle Cross Country team are in Syracuse New York and the USCAA National Cross Country Championships. Coach Chris Smith and the team left yesterday for Friday’s Championships.
“We always like to get to a National Championship. It’s very very competitive. Teams from all over the country and very high quality competition. We are in Syracuse instead of Lake Placid. We have an idea o how the course runs, but won’t know for sure until tomorrow when we get a look at the course.”
Smith says the team is pretty healthy and ready to compete
” Everybody is ready to go. We fought a couple of colds here and there, but everybody healthy now. They are tapered they are peaked they are ready for a good performance.”
Kayla Legasse was an All American last year and is running in the women’s race again on the men’s side Phillip Boody, Corey Hebert and Jesse Sandstrom will all be racing. Smith said this years event will be extremely competitive.
“It’s more competitive this year there are probably 30 more women than last year. On the guys side there are over 200 runners which is up about 40 runners from last year. The USCAA is growing more teams going more competition and we will have to see how it all shakes out.”
