One of Animal Planet’s highest rated television shows is “North Woods Law”. For the past few years the show has featured Maine Game Wardens in the field. For the first time ever a production crew traveled to the County and spent time with several local wardens this past summer including Alan Dudley.

There was a big push to get it up here in Aroostook County. It’s still a challenge for them for future shows.I’m sure it has a lot to do with logistics. We are a long ways away and it’s alot easier I am sure it’s Augusta south. I hope they do more up here. I know it’s probably the number one comment I get, when are they going to show it up here.”

Sgt. Dan Menard Maine Warden Service
Sgt Dan Menard also had a film crew following him. Menard is very familiar in front of the camera. I have been with him on several Ride alongs over the last 15 years. He said working with the North Woods Law film crew was a little adjustment, but he is excited about the show
” It was unique. It was different. It’s like a learning curve having someone with you when you are trying to do your job. I think they got some good stuff to higlight the County and the next few episodes should have stories from Aroostook County on it.”
Lt. Tom Ward Maine Warden Service
Lt Tom Ward has kept in touch with the company that produced the show and he feels they did a great job in telling the County’s story
“I think it was a really good thing to see the film crew up here. It depected a lot of the County the resources we have, the personel we have. It’s a change up from Southern Maine Coastal Maine, Downeast I think it was a good thing.”
Menard and Dudley both say the show is not staged, what you see is what you get
“The fact it is all on the spot. There is no rehearsing. There is no going back. It’s basically what you see is what you get.”
The Warden Service is using the show as a recruitment tool. Sgt Menard said the job is always changing
“Our job changes with the season. It’s hunting season and pretty soon it will be snowmobile season ice fishing season and then back into regular fishing season. So every season holds something different for our job.”
Warden Dudley agrees saying he can’t think of another job he would rather have.
“You have a huge live for the outdoors. It is the best job out there.and I think if the word gets out and if people realize what we do there will be more interest in it.”
The next episode of “North Woods Law” will air on Thursday December 5th at 10pm. North Woods Law Life on the Border will feature several wardens from the County. The final two episodes for the season will air on December 12th and 19th.
