Athletic Directors Meet with MPA Representatives

| November 12, 2013

Athletic Directors in the Aroostook League spent the morning with representatives of the Maine Principals Association. Michael Burnham and Gerry Durgin  look to visit with every league at least once during the school year.

Durgin and Burnham travel all over the state to get information from the Athletic Directors

” We try to go to all eight leagues around the state to maybe talk about some of the issues  that are coming out of our office but to also answer questions that are very league specific.”

Durgin agrees saying that the AD’s and Maine Principals Association work well together and this is  way to meet face to face to talk about possible changes and issues

“I think it is extremely important to get out to all the leagues in the State. i think it says to people we have a vested interest in them and what they do.  As has been noted many times we couldn’t do what we do without them. All of the league’s play an integral role in what we do.”

Durgin told the Athletic Directors that there has been a change to Class C Wrestling for the upcoming season

“We won’t have a C wrestling regional in 2014 and that is due in large part to the fact the numbers have been reduced. Last year we did not fill all of the  brackets in the C East and West tournament and  consequently when we got to the State Championship we also didn’t have all the brackets filled.”

The last few weeks have been extremely busy for the MPA and schools with State Championships crowned in several sports and so far the events have been very successful

“We have been very fortunate we have had good weather for the fall and didn’t have to reschedule. We had some great games over the  course of the championship and we are excited to in a couple of weeks finish up with our football championships.”
