Presque Isle Graduate Brennen Shaw is one of the first players from the County to play Division 2 hockey. Shaw will begin his senior year at Assumption College in Worcester Massachusetts early next month. Shaw says there was quite an adjustment to the College game. Rene Cloukey has the story.
Shaw:” It’s a major shift from High School. Bigger, stronger, faster, more skilled player, but it is a great experience to play against people at that skill level. It has been a great time.”
Shaw had a lot of success in High School He ended with well over 100 points in his career and helped to lead the Wildcats to the State Championship game in 2009 . He was named the Class B East Player of the Year in 2010. He says his career in Presque Isle gave him the tools needed for success on the ice and in the classroom
Shaw:” Presque Isle High School really prepared me to take on the real world. To really prepare myself as a hockey player. It was a great experience for me I got to develop my skills. I had a great time doing it.”
Shaw was named an Academic All American this past year for his success on the ice and in the classroom
Shaw:”I didn’t really set out to be an Academic All American but as soon as my freshman year I did really well in school. It became a goal to achieve really highly in the classroom as well as on the ice.”
He is looking forward to lacing up the skates for Assumption College for one more year and is excited about the upcoming season.
” I am really excited for the year. I am going to be one of the Captains so it is going to be a very good experience for me to grow as a leader and as a person. I am really excited.
