Cyra and Riquelle Barnes are two little girls who know exactly what they want from Santa, a doll house. That is exactly what they were given this Sunday at an event the VFW in Fort Fairfield hosted. Toys for tots donated over 200 toys to give children in the Fort Fairfield community, who may not have received any toys this holiday season.
“You go downtown and you see these kids that have nothing, I mean times are tough,” said Event Coordinator John Holschuh, Junior Vice Commander of VFW post 6187 in Fort Fairfield.
Holschuh coordinated this event because he believes everyone should have a present on Christmas.
“I just wanted to hook up with Toys for Tots to get toys for these kids around here that may not wake up with nothing for Christmas,” added Holschuh.
Sunday was a tough day for traveling, but John is determined to get every child in need a toy. He said if the turn out was not what they expected, there will be another date scheduled to give out toys.
Holschuh told us whatever toys they have left over will be donated to the Cary Medical Center and the Presque Isle Medical Center pediatric wards. He added that Christmas should not be about Black Friday and shopping, it should be about giving back and bringing smiles to children’s faces, like Cyra and Riquelle.
