Ghazaleh  Sailors always dreamed of playing College Baseball . The California Native searched All over the Country for a school that would let a women play on a men’s baseball team. Two years ago we caught up with Sailors as she began her career at the University of Maine Presque Isle. This year the Junior says she still gets some strange looks when she takes the field.

Sailors:”I don’t get it up here I have been pretty well accepted up here. You are always going to get double cross and double takes the first time you go to a stadium . They are thinking is there really a girl on their team.”

This is her third year on the team.  coach Mike Pankow says that she fits in perfectly with her teammates

Pankow:” The guys have really accepted her on the team.  She is just like another guy on the team and she wants to be a part of the team and she has the right personality for it.”

Sailors was in the spotlight last week when pitched a five inning complete game and picked up the win over Valley Force Christian College. Sailors gave up just one run and struck out eight in a weather shortened game. Sailors has picked up two victories during her college career.

Sailors:” A lot of people ask me are you happy that you are the only girl in college baseball because I am the only girl playing college baseball. I say no I want other girls to follow their dreams. The big thing about this win is  I’m just a pitcher on  a college baseball team. That is what I want to remembered as that is what I want my teammates to think of me as.”

Pankow says that Sailors is very versatile

Pankow:”She is so valuable to us out of the bullpen. She compliments our starters real well so when we bring her out of the bullpen behind one of our starters what she throws is even more effective.”

Sailors also played for the US Women’s National Baseball team back in 2010 and hopes to make the National squad again this year and compete in the World Cup held in September. She said that her advice to any young girls who are looking to chase a dream is to go for it.

Sailors:” One quote that I follow is the future belongs to those who believe in the power of their dreams. If you believe in yourself and work hard and never give up you can do things  that no one ever imagined you could do.”
