Presque Isle Invited to Host World Cup Event in 2016

Another World Cup Biathlon event  could be  headed to the County. The International Biathlon Union has issued an invitation for the Nordic Heritage Center in Presque Isle to host a World Cup event in 2016. Once again the event would put the County on the World Biathlon Map. Jane Towle Event Director for the 2014 Junior World Biathlon Championships that will be held in Presque Isle says this is great news for the area.


“This speaks so highly of the organizing committee and all the work they have done, We have worked really hard to set  expectations high. We have managed to meet and exceed everything the IBU has come to expect.”

Presque Isle hosted a World Cup event in 2011 and had high marks from the International Biathlon Union .Max Saenger says the invitation to host the World Cup event is a huge vote of confidence in the area

” It’s a huge credit to the area and the volunteers and to the businesses and service based hosting and tourism. This a warm place in a cold winter for our European visitors.”

Saenger says that competitors enjoy coming to this area. He said that the 2014 Junior World event will be a major test for the organizing committee

“They have come to expect really high level hosting, great value for the money and time they have to spend getting here. They enjoy it and have a great time here. Now with this event in 2016 all eyes are going to be on 14 to see how we perform expectations will again be very high. They will be looking for that as we move to 2016.

Presque Isle and Canmore Alberta the site of the 1988 Olympics received the invitations to host in 2016. This is just the first step in the process to host a World Cup event.. The Presque Isle organizing committee will now decide whether to accept the invitation. They will be looking for business and community support before they decide to accept
