Presque Isle Fire Deemed Suspicious

| June 2, 2014

At approximately 9:00 pm Sunday evening the Presque Isle Fire Department received a call for a structure fire at 290 Skyway St. in a duplex. The crew on duty arrived and found fire on the outside of the duplex as well as in one of the bedrooms. They made a quick attack on the fire and were able to knock it down and confine it to the one side of the duplex. There was one occupant home in the side that caught fire and she was able to escape after neighbors told her the structure was on fire.  The building is owned by Gerry Bonville and the occupant had been renting from Mr. Bonville. The American Red Cross was notified and made contact with the occupant to offer assistance.

Presque Isle had 19 members that responded to the call and were assisted by Crown Ambulance and EMERA Maine. Crews were on scene until 11pm.  There were no injuries. The cause of the fire is suspicious and is currently under investigation by the Presque Isle Police Department and the State Fire Marshal’s office.
