ELLSWORTH, Maine (AP) – More power outages plagued the Downeast area of Maine on the first day of the new year.
Bangor Hydro was reporting just four outages Wednesday morning, down from a peak of about 40,000 last week. But the number rose again Wednesday afternoon to nearly 9,400 homes and businesses in Hancock County. Those problems have been fixed however, and fewer than two dozen customers were still without power later in the day.
The new outages affected thousands of customers in the Ellsworth, Blue Hill, Surry, Stonington areas just as Bangor Hydro was wrapping up restoration from last week’s ice storm.
Meanwhile, Maine Gov. Paul LePage on Wednesday ended the state of emergency he declared earlier this month due to the ice storm.
