Portage Hills Country Club will be honoring a well known County Philanthropist who passed away earlier this summer. Ashland area businessman J Paul Levesque helped many groups and organizations during his life and now a tournament in his name will honor him and help raise some much needed money for a small golf course.
Bill Nemer is President of Portage Hills Country Club and he says the club will always remember Levesque” We are always going to remember him and the things he has done not only for Portage Hills Country Club, but for the people of Ashland and even Presque Isle. He really deserves to be honored in a special way.”
Levesque loved golf and was a long time member at both Portage Hills and Presque Isle Country Club. Nemer said as soon as he found out about Levesque’s passing he started planning for a memorial tournament for a man touched many lives in the area.
” The scholarship money that J Paul donated over the years. Even my kids were recipients. The running of the mills, the Imaging Center in Presque Isle, It goes on and on and there are things that no one even knows about.”
The Portage Hills President says the club has been struggling financially and thanks to the Levesque family this event should be a huge shot in the arm for the course
” The Levesque family has donated all of the prize money. We are giving away over three thousand dollars in prize money men’s and ladies division and even cash prizes for longest drive. i think it is just the way of the family saying thank you. They know as a golf course we are kind of struggling and need that money to survive.”
The four person tournament will tee off on Saturday at 10am. You can call the club to register or you can register Saturday morning at the clubhouse.
