The Polar Express came to Presque Isle over the weekend; getting kids and people of all ages into the Christmas spirit, and also in the spirit of giving back. New Source 8’s Angela Christoforos has more on this fun holiday fundraiser…
An excited child said, “I’m excited because Santa’s coming on.”
The Presque Isle Kiwanis Club and Maine Northern Railway collaborated to bring the Polar Express to Presque Isle.
President of the Presque Isle Kiwanis Club Dawn Poitras said, “It’s going to Scopan and back, and along the ride we’re going to sing Christmas carols, we’ve got the community players singing and dancing.”
The festive train was complete with Christmas decorations and hot cocoa for a jolly old 2 hour ride. A ton of people were on board and that’s cause over 400 tickets were sold- and over $8,000 dollars was raised!
President of the Presque Isle Kiwanis Club Dawn Poitras said, “Tickets sold in about 24 hours it’s the most amazing thing that we’ve seen in Kiwanis.”
The proceeds raised go to Kiwanis charities and Christmas projects for children and families in need.
President of the Presque Isle Kiwanis Club Dawn Poitras said, “It’s certainly a great fundraiser for the Kiwanis Club.”
It was a fun-filled family event just in time for the holidays. The Polar Express made two round trips on Saturday- one leaving at 9 am and the other at 1 in the afternoon, and Santa Claus was even picked up along the way!
