Muffins, cupcakes, cookies, jellies, and even soups and sandwiches can all be found at Philbrick’s Bakery and Cafe. Co-Owner and wife of Steve Philbrick, says the bakery, located in the Aroostook Centre Mall, has been his dream for quite some time.

“He’s wanted to do it for 14 years so I said, why not?” says Kait.

Steve says he’s always loved baking and he’s even taught his wife a few things.

“I started baking with my great-grandmother, and I used to love to watch her cook. I just kind of got on to it. I’m just excited to go ahead and do it,” says Steve.

Kait says the bakery was supposed to just be around for the holiday season, but it has definitely taken off. Philbricks says if there is something on the menu you want and don’t see, they would be glad to make it for you, just give them 24 hours notice. Everything in the bakery and cafĂ© is homemade.

“I use a lot of my great-grandmother’s recipes, and my grandmother’s recipes, her grandmother’s recipes. It’s all family that works here, our boys help out,” says Steve.

Many people who have visited the bakery say they love that it is family-owned.

“They call us the mom and pops, like the old-fashioned cafes that mom and pop own,” says Steve.

As for what the Philbricks hope to bring to the mall…

“Good home cooking and friendliness.”
