State Police say a woman has been killed at an apartment along Main Street in Old Town. A State Trooper who responded to the scene, along with Old Town Police and Penobscot County Sheriff deputies, shot and killed the man involved in the domestic violence homicide. Police responded to the scene after the man called police to say he had stabbed his girlfriend. Two young children, ages 2 and 4, were in the third floor apartment and were unharmed. The Chief of the State Police, Colonel Robert Williams said at the scene that the trooper involved in the shooting is Barry Meserve, a 15 year veteran. As is standard procedure, Meserve has been placed on administrative leave with pay as the State Police and the Maine Attorney General’s Office investigate the incident. The man and woman are believed to be in their 30’s and had lived in the apartment for about two months. Autopsies are scheduled Thursday at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta. The names are being withheld for the time being. The two children have been placed in the custody of relatives.
