Oakland Votes Down a Proposal to Fine Owners of Loud Roosters

| September 17, 2013

A proposal to fine owners of loud roosters in Oakland has been tabled.  The proposal would have levied fines as high as $100.  A dozen Oakland residents showed up at the council meeting to oppose the ordinance.  Those residents said that the roosters are needed to breed chickens to show at the agricultural fair.  Town Manager Peter Nielsen said the proposal was sparked mostly by the concerns of one resident, who complained about a neighbor’s four loud roosters. The neighbor has since given three roosters away, which Nielsen says appears to have solved the problem.
