| September 26, 2013

The Economic Development Association has awarded the Northern Maine Development Commission (NMDC) $200,000 to support the development of a Biomass Clean Tech Manufacturing Cluster Strategic Plan to advance the design and manufacture of biomass heating appliances in Northern Maine. The project will lead to job creation through expansion of business opportunities and business expansion in the region.

This project is funded through the Investing in Manufacturing Communities Partnership (IMCP), an Administration-wide initiative designed to accelerate the resurgence of manufacturing and help cultivate an environment for businesses to create well-paying manufacturing jobs in regions across the country.
NMDC also received $75,000 from USDA Rural Development to advance the Biomass Clean Tech Manufacturing Cluster Strategic Plan.
In addition, NMDC, as the lead applicant, received $575,000 to support Phase II of the Mobilize Maine Cluster Development project. This project, conducted by all seven Maine Economic Development Districts, is developing a statewide, cluster-focused, asset-based, economic development strategy to create jobs and boost private investment in Maine.
