The Presque Isle Kiwanis Club Host Annual Community Christmas Project

| December 20, 2013

For over 40 years the Kiwanis club have been opening their doors to provide toys to children from less fortunate families.

“They go away with being able to have a Christmas, new Christmas toys on Christmas morning,” said John Graves C0-Chair of the Kiwanis Community Christmas Project.

Families fill out applications and hand them into the Kiwanis club, who then process the applications and choose the families who are most in need. The Families chosen were invited to come toy shop on Wednesday night, where there are a variety of toys donated from local residents as well as local businesses.

“Two gifts for each child in their family, plus a pair of mittens. We give them a game per family and a couple of books for each family, sometimes more,” said Graves.

Families are also able to choose stocking stuffers and stuffed animals for their children as extras.

“You know and everybody knows it takes a lot of money to survive up here in the winter time.  We are just making it easier for some of those folks that have a tough time,” added Graves.

Over 275 children will wake up on Christmas morning with a present to open.  This is all thanks to the Community Christmas Project put on by the Kiwanis.
