Runners hit the road in their best Christmas gear for the first annual Holiday Classic 5K . This race was held to raise money for the Kiwanis club, as well as collect Christmas presents for needy children in the area.
“As runners, as athletes we are all very giving and in what we do. We have a strong devotion to our time, to our sports we also have a huge following of people who want to give back to the community,” said Race Director, Jonathan Kelley.
People of all ages showed up to race, including Santa’s Reindeer from the Mars Hill After the Bell Program. After practicing 2 long months these reindeer were ready to hit the road.
“It was great for the kids to be able to use their talents and something that they like to do and to be able to give back,” said Jamie Guerrette, Program Director at After The Bell in Mars Hill.
Because along with their running shoes, each child brought a toy to donate.
“It’s children helping children so its pretty cool,” said Kelley.
And these cool temperatures didn’t bother these kids because helping out others was the reason they all braved Friday nights weather.
