Snow Plow Efforts During Storms

| December 23, 2013

For two weekends in row, plow services in Presque Isle were on the go. Continuous snow fall like we’ve recently had, makes it tough for crews, especially when there is only one person for each plow route.

Presque Isle City Manager Jim Bennett says, “you eventually have to let the guys and the gals go home an get some sleep and you don’t have somebody to take their spots.’

Presque Isle had all 13 plows in operation….And with staff working around the clock, overtime is something that will have to be taken into account.”

Bennett says, “it’s never good at the end of the year to be spending money on overtime, given we had the mid year adjustment that we had to do because of the state budget.”

Bennett says, here in the county, there just isn’t enough man power to have someone plowing for 72 hours straight.

Bennett, “that fact that we don’t have 2 or 3 people to work per plow route, you may think that the roads are not as good as they normally would be and that’s indeed true.”

According to the national weather service, plow crews had to battle 15 and a half inches of snow last weekend, and another 7.2 this weekend.
