Mining Project on Bald Mountain Causes Back and Forth Debate

| March 28, 2012

A discussion will take place on Friday at the State Legislature in Augusta on changing Maine’s mining law. The initiative is proposed by Rep. John Martin of Eagle Lake and could directly impact the possibility of a mining project being launched on Bald Mountain in Aroostook County and near the towns of Ashland and Portage. Along with Irving Woodlands which co-owns the land the project would occur on, local residents say if there is no negative environmental impact they want the project to begin because it could create jobs. Shawn Cunningham reports.
