Davis Settling in as Frenchville Town Manager

| October 22, 2013

He’s the new man in charge. John Davis is in week number three of being Frenchville’s town manager.

“I’ve been trying to get more familiar with the budget,” Davis says. “And reading the policies and procedures, I’ve been out to meet a few people, a few business owners, but I certainly want to get out and meet more of the public”

Davis took over for Casey Cote, who held the position for about two and a half years and stepped down in August. This new job is one he’s both excited and nervous about – it’s his first time being a town manager.

Davis says, “I was a little apprehensive about the whole thing not knowing anybody but for the last couple weeks the employees have been great, the girls in here have helped me with everything, and Casey’s been coming by a couple nights a week.”

Davis comes to Frenchville after serving as a town councilor in Millinocket for seven years, and four of those years he was the council’s chairman. He believes both that experience and his education in public administration have prepared him well for this position.┬áHe also spent 35 years working in the paper mills in Millinocket and East Millinocket. He’s got big goals for his time in this seat.

“I guess it’s every managers dream to grow the community and stop the outmigration of the town’s young people,” he says.

Before interviewing for the town manager’s position, he’d never even been to Frenchville, but fell in love with it instantly…and says he’ll stay as long as they’ll have him.

“Small communities are really part of my DNA,” Davis says. “And I’m in my comfort zone in a town like this so, I think I’m going to fit in alright.”
