Christmas gifts delivered to Veterans

| December 19, 2013

Christmas came a little early for Veterans across the St John Valley. It’s all part of a gift giving service to Veterans. This week gifts have been delivered to Veterans in Van Buren, Madawaska, Frenchville, and today; Fort Kent. News Source 8′s Angela Christoforos has the story…

It was all smiles at Cross Winds residential care today as Veterans opened gifts from the American Legion Riders of Madawaska.

Jennifer Daigle, Director of Madawaska American Legion Riders Chapter 147 said, “This is our 6th year doing this, we’re all Veterans and we’re thanking our Veterans.”

Each year the gift is different. This year it’s an American Legion Riders fleece zip up. Over 60 Veterans from across the Valley were given the red and green fleece jackets.

“A lot of these veterans don’t have family that comes and sees them and we come and see them and to see the joy in their eyes opening a simple Christmas gift, it’s wonderful,” said Daigle.

It’s a simple gesture giving Veterans a special gift and a heartfelt thank you.

Veteran Claude Dumonde said, “I think that this is just terrific that they take the time to come here and honor us. (BIG SMILE)”

Veteran Patrick White said, “Makes me feel on top of the world.”

Gifts were also delivered to Veterans at the Mercy Home in Eagle Lake today.
