Today marks the 6 year anniversary of an unsolved murder case of a Woodland man. News Source 8′s Angela Christoforos checked in with investigators for an update…

It’s been 6 years since 56-year-old Darrel Smith was found shot and killed during an apparent robbery of his workshop on the Thomas Road in Woodland on February 6th, 2008. Smith was known for being a family man. His murder shocked the Woodland community and all of Aroostook County.

Through the years a stolen safe taken from the shop and gun used in the murder were found but officials have not revealed where or under what conditions they were discovered.

News Source 8 reached out to the Attorney General’s Office in Augusta for comment on any updates in the investigation, head of the investigative division William Stokes said they he could not discuss the investigative details of an unsolved case but said, “The case has not been solved, it remains open and active. State Police continue to follow up on leads as they get them.”

A $55,000 reward is still available for information leading to an arrest in connection with the killing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the State Police at 207-532-5400.
