AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) – A consultant hired by Republican Gov. Paul LePage’s administration is no longer scheduled to testify before a congressional panel next week.
Gary Alexander of the Alexander Group was supposed to speak at a June 10 “War on Poverty” panel for the House Budget Committee.
A spokesman for the House Budget Office tells the Portland Press Herald that “in light of recent events,” Alexander will no longer be speaking at the hearing. He declined to specify why Alexander was removed from the panel.
Alexander has come under fire in recent weeks after two newspapers reported that his group copied or improperly cited the work of several other organizations in a report on Maine’s Medicaid and welfare programs.
Republican Gov. Paul LePage has suspended payments to the group.
