Former Univeristy of Maine Fort Kent soccer player Matt Dunn is making the adjustment from College Soccer to Professional Soccer. Dunn recently signed a contract with Chivas USA of Major League Soccer. He has already played in one Reserve Match. Dunn says that playing Professional Soccer is something he always dreamed about.

Dunn:” It’s been my dream since i was a 4 year old kid. I started going to MLS games with my father. I think it is every kids dream to play in the MLS at one point in their life.”

Dunn is reunited with his U 17 National Coach . Wilmer Cabrera is in his first year as the Chivas USA Coach

Dunn:” Coach Cabrera knows me really well. He knows my strengths and weaknesses and know what I need to work on and he knows how my strengths will help improve the team.”

Dunn spent two years in Germany joining the FC Cologne Youth Academy.

Dunn:” Speed of play first touch has to be sharper. You have to get rid of the ball quicker. The players here are physical, they are very good. There is a lot to learn from all of them.”

Last year Dunn decided on returning to College and attended the University of Maine Fort Kent.

Dunn:” It’s different we had a good team though we lost in the Championship game and that was unfortunate. I learned a lot and I enjoyed my time there.”

He said he enjoyed the college experience and left the St John Valley with some good memories

Dunn:” There was a lot of laughter some hardships too. I made a lot of friendships that I will cherish for the rest of my life.”

The 20 year now is focused on Professional Soccer and he has some short term and long term goals

Dunn:” I just hope to make the bench. I hope in a few weeks that I can start and get some playing time. I have to get my fitness up first and I know that. Long term I would like to help us make the playoffs and play an important role in that.
