Mars Hill has seen quite a few changes over the past year. Former Town Manager Karin Petrin resigned in November, and Ray Merserau has served as Interim Town Manager since then. But as News Source 8′s Angela Christoforos reports, a new Town Manager has been hired…
Mars Hill has seen a few changes in management over the past year but as of this week there’s a new town manager who says he hopes to stay for the long term.
It’s day 2 on the job for New Mars Hill Town Manager David Cyr who grew up in Madawaska and currently lives in Woodland.
New Mars Hill Town Manager David Cyr said, “I went to Rotary this morning and then spent the rest of the morning looking at our buildings and our road infrastructure.”
Cyr says there’s a number of things he’s working on and some of the challenges the town faces are the same things all of Aroostook County faces: a declining population, declining tax base, and the economy.
“We’ve just started our fiscal year, based on the notes at the Council meeting last night we’re not in bad shape,” said Cyr.
It’s his first stint as a town manager, but it’s not his first time working in town government.
“I’m familiar with municipal government having served as a Selectman for the town of Woodland for 9 years and working with the County Commissioners office in that same time period,” said Cyr.
Cyr will be working side by side with interim town manager Ray Mersereau to learn the ins and outs of Mars Hill until he is officially appointed as Town Manager on May 19th.
Cyr also has a background in engineering.
