SKOWHEGAN, Maine (AP) – A Norridgewock man prosecutors say brought a gun into an Athens store and threatened people has pleaded guilty, even though he says the entire incident was a misunderstanding and he did nothing wrong.
Kerry Stevens pleaded guilty to criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and disorderly conduct, but can have charges reduced if he complies with certain court conditions.
Authorities say the 57-year-old Stevens brought the handgun to the Athens Corner Store on Dec. 19, made lewd gestures and threatened customers. The gun was apparently not loaded.
Stevens tells the Morning Sentinel that all he did was bring the gun into the store and lay it on the counter. He said his father borrowed the gun from the store’s owner years ago and he was simply returning it.
