A 34 year old man from Waldoboro has been arrested for arson. The charge stems from an intentionally set fire at 50 Union Rd in Waldoboro on November 14 that destroyed a mobile home.
Arrested and charged with arson is 34 year old Eric J. Buckley who was living at the mobile home. He was the only occupant at the home at the time of the fire. Also living there, but not at home, was a woman and her 13 year old son. Buckley was arrested just after noon Friday upon his release from the VA Hospital in Togus. Buckley was transported to the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset and will likely make his first court appearance early next week.
Fire Marshal Sgt. Ken Grimes said Buckley set fire to items in a bathtub and the fire then quickly spread destroying the mobile home. During the fire, a Waldoboro firefighter was hospitalized for treatment of heat exhaustion and later released.
A 14 year old neighbor, Jacob Soule noticed the fire and helped Buckley escape out a bedroom window. Soule then called 911 to report the fire and unleashed the family dog from the outside of the mobile home.
