| January 3, 2014

Winter Weather

Strong winds throughout Maine are picking up newly laid snow and making the bone-chilling cold feel even colder.

Residents throughout much of Maine woke up to sub-zero temperatures Friday morning, with wind gusts up to 30 mph in some areas along the coast.

The National Weather Service in Gray says it’s expecting temperatures to drop even more Friday night before gradually warming up into the 20s Saturday afternoon in southern Maine, but only the single numbers here in Aroostook County.

Meteorologist Chris Legro says it could reach 30 below or colder in some valleys in western Maine on Friday night.

Some Mainers saw relief from the snow as none reached here in the north while the hard-hit southern part of the state received up to a foot, causing some school and business closures Friday.
