Maine Panel Endorses $30 Million Budget Fix

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) – Lawmakers on Maine’s budget-writing committee have reached a deal on a $30 million budget fix that also aims to reduce a wait list for services for people with disabilities.

The funding measure approved Wednesday after an all-night session closes a MaineCare shortfall for the fiscal year that ends June 30, 2015. It puts $5 million toward the Department of Health and Human Services wait lists and adds $5 million in reimbursement for nursing homes.

The measure is funded through a variety of means, including extending the cycle of Medicaid payments to hospitals and transferring unused funds from the Dirigo Health Program.

A separate funding bill that would close a $40 million budget gap this year and $18 million next year went into law without Gov. Paul LePage’s signature last week.
