It was another bitterly cold start to the day for the IBU World Youth and Junior Biathlon Championships. Rene Cloukey takes a look at the women’s Junior Individual Race.

Once again shooting  is key in the Individual event. A minute is added onto the competitors time for each target that is missed and that could mean the difference between a gold medal and a 10 place finish.  Louise Kummer of Germany shot clean hitting all 20 targets and picked up a 19 second win in the Junior Women’s event

Kummer:” It was really great. I was really nervous before the last shooting. but when all the targets got clean it was gorgeous.

Lisa Theresa Hauser of Austria who has spent most of the year on the World Cup Circuit and who finished 27th in the Sprint Race at the Sochi Olympics was second and Uliana Kaisheva of Russia was third. Sarah Beaudry of Canada  finished in sixth spot

Beaudry:” I hit 17 so that was good maybe one to many misses but with the winds . I was happy I still got quite a few of them down.”
