WASHINGTON (AP) – Sen. Angus King of Maine has been appointed to a House and Senate budget conference committee that aims to create a long-term budget plan by Dec. 13 to avert another government shutdown.
The conference committee, which consists of 29 members from the House and Senate, came about as a result of the last-minute agreement to reopen the government and lift the debt ceiling.

The conference committee must reconcile the differences between the two budgets passed by the Senate and the House.

King, a member of the Senate Budget Committee, says he looks forward to helping to develop “a long-term budget that puts our nation back on a path to fiscal certainty and stability.”
