A jury has convicted a 76-year-old Aroostook County man in the death of his girlfriend who went missing 15 year ago and whose body has never been found.
Jurors on Friday night found George Jaime (JAY’-mee) Sr., of Presque Isle, guilty of killing Starlett “Star” Vining.
Prosecutors say he beat and stabbed Vining until she died. The defense argued there’s no evidence of that because Vining’s body was never found.
Jaime’s former daughter-in-law testified that she heard her husband and a friend describe how Jaime had dismembered and burned the body parts in a furnace before disposing of the ashes.
Police say 38-year-old Vining was working at a grocery store in Presque Isle when she simply stopped coming to work in October 1998.
