The Houlton International Airport is hosting it’s 2nd Annual Wings and Wheels Fly-in Cruise-in event tomorrow. And as News Source 8’s Angela Christoforos reports, it’s a day full of antique cars, aircrafts, and it’s expected to be even bigger and better than last year’s event….
The 2nd Annual Wings and Wheels Fly-in Cruise-in event promises to be a day full of sights to see.
Houlton Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jane Torres said, “This has been 8th months in the making, we started gathering people about 8 months ago, every month when we had our meeting more and more people would come, it has been very exciting.”
Houlton Community Development Director Lori Weston said, “The amount of work that’s gone into this shows Houlton at it’s best, because it takes so many volunteers.”
It’s a family oriented event that will feature Jim Parker Air Shows from Vermont at 11 am, Vacation land Sky Diving tandem jumps at 10 am and much more. Pilots and are expected to fly in from across the state, and even different parts of New England.
“We’ve already had pilots from New Hampshire say that they’re going to be here and we have some Canadian at least Cruise-in Folks who are bringing some antique cars in, some British antique cars,” said Weston.
Organizers say it’s an opportunity to show off one of Houlton’s greatest asset’s- it’s International Airport that played a role in World War 2.
” This was an airbase it was the Houlton airbase and it had over 45,000 POW’s here at one time,” said Torres.
Last year 1500 people attended, and at this year’s event organizers are expecting between 3 to 4 thousand people to show up. Tickets for the 2nd Annual Wings and Wheels Fly-in Cruise-in cost 5 dollars. The event starts at 10 o’clock tomorrow morning and lasts until 5.
