| August 13, 2013

5 year old Ella and her 9 year old brother Aaron Gagne (GAG-KNEE) are getting their routine dental checkups. Both are in good hands because they’re being treated by new pediatric dentist to the St. Apollonia Dental Clinic Erik Johnson. Dr. Johnson says he moved to Northern Maine with a health mission in mind for youngsters.

“I wanna kind of open an access to care door for a lot of kids but also just wanna kind of eliminate the gross amount of carriers that we see in cavities in a lot of kids and we wanna kind of control the dental disease.”

Dr. Johnson was working for a clinic in Penobscot County when decided he wanted to BRUSH UP on his skill and take on a new challenge.

“I was referred a lot of kids that were very challenging to treat a lot of autistic kids and other special needs and so I wanted some additional training and I always had that community center desire and so this was just the right fit.”

In just its opening in the past two years, the clinic has seen tremendous growth in patient numbers and staff including theĀ  recent addition of Dr. Johnson. Johnson says what he loves about this experience just being three weeks on the job, is the sense of teamwork to treat kids.

Dr. Johnson was working in Bangor before moving to the county. He says he decided to make the move up north after treating so many county and New Brunswick kids who traveled two hours south for dental care. He realized there was a need.”

And in addition to joining the staff, St. Apollonia is adding on more patient services that will improve this dental home for youngsters.

“We’re trying to get the word out that we’re here that we offer different services like nitrous oxide sedation and in the future we’re hoping to offer oral sedation and general anesthesia in a local hospital.”

And Johnson says he’s WIDE OPEN or rather OPEN WIDE to any opportunities that will help get the word out about the clinic and help put more healthy smiles on kids faces.
