A 30-year-old Halifax man, Michael McNaughton, has been sentenced to three years in prison for possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
The charge stems from a vehicle search conducted near Edmundston on March 5, 2012, by the RCMP in New Brunswick’s Roving Traffic Unit with the assistance of the RCMP in New Brunswick’s Federal Operations (West) and Police Dog Services. The search led to the seizure of 109 pounds of marijuana, which was concealed in hidden compartments in the vehicle. McNaughton was arrested and charged following this seizure and the vehicle was seized.
On January 7, 2014, in the Edmundston Court of Queen’s Bench, McNaughton pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. In addition to his prison sentence, he was prohibited from owning a weapon, including a firearm,for a period of 10 years.
