AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) – As bitter cold temperatures set it, Gov. Paul LePage is asking residents to check on their neighbors. Lepage says it’s especially important to check in on those who are vulnerable or elderly as well as those who are using generators or alternative heaters. Artic air moved into much of Maine Monday night. The National Weather Service is warning residents to expect the cold to remain through Friday. LePage is reminding residents about the safe use of generators, which can cause carbon monoxide poisoning if used improperly. Maine health officials say generators should always be placed outdoors and at least 15 feet away from home windows and doors.
