A week after a double homicide devastated the small Southern Aroostook Community of Oakfield, community members are still shocked and trying to come to terms with a tragedy that took the lives of two beloved community members. A funeral service was held on Saturday in their remembrance.

Saddened, stunned, and in disbelief: a few words that say so much about how community members feel about the lives of Michael Kitchen and Heidi Pratt being taken too soon.

Stuart Craig used to ride motorcycles with Mike and Heidi, and he said,  “Super nice people, always smiling, happy go lucky, just the nicest people you could ask for really can’t believe it happened to them.”

Hundreds gathered at the Bethel Pentecostal church in Oakfield Saturday for the funeral of Michael Kitchen and Heidi Pratt; a couple that was together for years. They loved to ride motorcycles, and have been members of the Pine State Motorcycle club for the past 7 years. Club members made a memorial patch in their memory.

Stuart Craig said,  “They’ll be missed by a lot of people… A lot of people.”

Shelley Froehlich who used to work with Heidi Pratt said,  “It’s very hard it’s difficult, but it helps us come together and be supportive for each other in times like this, and really shows how much we can be there for everyone.”

Pratt and Kitchen were shot to death early morning on September 23rd; and their home was then set on fire. The small Oakfield community and those surrounding are completely devastated by a crime so senseless.

Officer Douglas Bell of the Caribou Police Department said, “Something like this doesn’t happen in a small community like this so it’s something that even if you leave the area you’ll never forget it.”

The community will surely never forget the warm-hearted spirits of both Michael Kitchen and Heidi Pratt.

State Police continue to investigate the deaths and circumstances of the shootings that killed 49-year-old Heidi Pratt and her boyfriend, 51 year old Micheal Kitchen. Matthew Davis of Houlton has been charged with two counts of murder.
