It’s no secret that this winter has already packed the county with snow. So far we’ve seen more than twice the amount we had last year to this date. Something that sellers of winter equipment are smiling about.
“The early snow is just like white gold for us,” says John Alexander, owner of Harry’s Motor Sports.
“When we get a lot of snow in December, people actually come in and buy a lot more than they do when it snows after January first,” says Gary Nadeau of Theriault Equipement.
Nadeau says thanks to the snow, sales at Theriault Equipment for the month of December have been steady. In fact, they’ve sold more compact tractors and walk-behind snow blowers than expected. They also just sold a groomer to the Presque Isle Snowmobile Club – and the nine workers in their shop have been busy making repairs to older equipment.
“Our repair shop is full and its not only John Deere in there. Pretty much anybody who drags anything in here, we’ll fix it,” says Nadeau.
The same is true over at Harry’s Motor Sports.
“With this snow people are starting to ride a little earlier than normal,” says owner John Alexander. “So they’re in getting those serviced and ready for the winter, the cold weather we had caught the tractor owners off guard and they didn’t have their diesel fuel mixed.”
Alexander says snow blowers have been the big ticket item so far – but they’ve also sold around twenty snowmobiles this month – and oftentimes that means people are also spending money on gear.
“With people being able to ride during Christmas vacation, its going to be real good, the phones have been ringing off the hook this morning so that’s always a good sign, ” says Alexander.
As long as the snow keeps falling, neither Nadeau nor Alexander is worried about business slowing down any time soon.
