Court Rejects Sexual Assault Appeal

| February 18, 2014

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) – The state supreme court has rejected an appeal by a Maine man convicted of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl and photographing the abuse.

Nicholas Gladu of Windham contended jurors weren’t sufficiently questioned for potential biases and that a photograph introduced at trial wasn’t sufficient to convict on one of the counts.

The Maine Supreme Judicial Court on Tuesday rejected both claims.

The crimes came to light in October 2010 when Gladu’s ex-girlfriend found a memory card among his belongings after he moved out. The card held photos depicting children, including the victim, in sexual situations.

Gladu was convicted of unlawful sexual contact, sexual exploitation of a minor, visual sexual aggression against a child, and 65 counts of possessing sexually explicit materials.
