An armed suspect who robbed a store in Mars Hill this week (4/2/14) is in custody. It’s a small town and many say not too much action like that happens very often. We spoke to some of the locals in that area to get their reaction to the robbery.
It’s a much quieter down town Mars Hill now. The scene was busy Wednesday evening after an armed suspect robbed the One Stop. That suspect has been identified as 26 year old Ralph Levesque Jr. A woman was inside the One Stop while the robbery was happening.
Marla Mean, “We were just sitting there eating our supper, and the lady just came over and said that we have an emergency – you have to leave immediately.”
Aroostook County sheriffs say a theft first occurred inside this circle k where Levesque took cigarettes and beer. Later, his target was the Mars Hill One Stop where he brandished a weapon and got away with an undisclosed amount of cash. Both stores were unable to speak to us. But other locals in the area say when they heard the news, they were a bit shocked.
“I actually was doing a dress rehearsal for a pageant and all of the sudden no one was paying attention to what was going on anymore because all their phones started going off and said the one stop had been broken into so we ran out and locked the door.”
“I wasn’t to far away so I pulled in saw the law enforcement next door and found out there was a robbery and saw the girl pull in showing them a picture on a phone and the next thing I knew the cops were headed out the door to get the guy that had done it.
“I was a bit surprised and disappointed to learn there’d been – that take place in the little town of Mars Hill.”
“When I heard it was just an armed robbery I was mainly relieved that no one was hurt at first, I mean it shows how often stuff like this happens in this town.
Levesque was arrested about an hour after the robbery Wednesday evening along the Chandler Road in Blaine. He’s now at the Aroostook County jail (4/3/14), and is being charged with robbery, 2 counts of theft, and violation of condition of release. Aroostook County Sheriffs say Levesque was also wanted on an outstanding warrant from Lincoln County.
According to the Arosotook County Sheriff’s Office, the theft and robbery are still under investigation. They add that the robbery charge is a class A robbery. The Aroostook County jail says Levesque will be video arraigned Friday afternoon (4/4/14).
